An electoral candidate is a vote salesman, and there are no two ways about it. A vote salesman sells, peddles, votes in return for the benefits of bringing to the neighbourhood, businesses, jobs, schools – or some theory of good government.
Here then are the tips, offered for free, from a salesman to vote peddlers, in the order of priority as follows:

Apologise for your intrusion;

State your name, the party you represent;

Introduce your cohorts;

Explain why you are disrupting the family’s afternoon nap;

Thank the woman of the house for listening;

Hand in a contact number for electoral queries – this is important: imagine a salesman without a forwarding contact;

Invite the family to the next ceramah; and,

Finally, leave after passing your advertisement flyer to the kid nearest you.
